“Previously I would have to print out pages and pages of information and images when I took trips to view houses. It was a real waste, but I had no choice. Now I can download everything and have it all to hand. It’s easier for me and saves a few trees at the same time.”

Rectory Homes

After getting involved with the Sustainable Routes programme, one woman was able to put her green philosophy into practice and cut down on harmful fuel emissions.

Sarah Vickers is an interior designer for Rectory Homes, a new homes developer, and her job requires her to be on the move a lot of the time, meaning many miles on the clock, a hefty fuel bill and tonnes of CO2 emissions over time. Through its online calculator Sustainable Routes was able to show Sarah the benefits of investing in new equipment that would reduce her outgoings and excited by the prospect of saving time, money and CO2 emissions, she eagerly jumped aboard the Sustainable Routes bandwagon.

So, with the help of Sustainable Routes, Sarah purchased an iPad that allowed her to cut down on unnecessary travel and printing, saving time, money, fuel and trees!

While used to have to undertake many long journeys by car to view houses, thanks to Sustainable Routes Sarah is now able to limit herself to priority trips and make big savings as a result. As she explains: “I used to go all over the place to look at houses including those of our competitors in London, Bath, and the surrounding areas, and now I have no need as I am able to view the properties online and can work from anywhere.”

Every car journey saved means a reduction in CO2 emissions, and the environment is getting a boost in another way too: “Previously I would have to print out pages and pages of information and images when I took trips to view houses. It was a real waste, but I had no choice. Now I can download everything and have it all to hand. It’s easier for me and saves a few trees at the same time.”

Through Sustainable Routes, Rectory Homes have found a way to fulfil a green philosophy. “We are keen on being as green as possible at work,” said Sarah “just as we are at home in our personal lives. We recycle everything including all of the materials we use, as we all have to think of the future of the environment.”
